PETER AND THE STARCATCHER Will Offer Student Matinee, 12/5

The producers of Peter and the Starcatcher, the five-time Tony® Award-winning play by Rick Elice which tells the back story of Peter Pan, announced today that they have partnered with the NYC Department of Education to hold a special matinee for theater students on Wednesday, December 5 at 11:30 AM, with a post-show talkback following the performance.

The audience will include more than 1000 students and their teachers from fifteen schools across the five boroughs, including 30 displaced students from Scholars’ Academy’s “Broadway, Jr.” program in Rockaway Beach, where the doors remain close from damaged caused by Hurricane Sandy. In addition to offering significantly discounted student tickets, the producers have added this unique matinee performance to respond to the needs of New York public schools. Peter and the Starcatcher is currently playing at the Brooks Atkinson Theatre (256 West 47th Street).

In conjunction with this unique matinee, the producers are offering complimentary workshops for students to enhance the theater education programming for participating NYC schools. The hope is that this matinee for students in grades 5 - 8 will expand the way Broadway productions partner with the NYC Department of Education, affording more New York City public school students the opportunity to have a complete Broadway experience.

Directed by Tony® Award-winner Roger Rees and Tony® Award-nominee Alex Timbers, Peter and the Starcatcher began performances on Wednesday, March 28 and opened to rave reviews on Sunday, April 15, 2012. Tickets are now on sale through January 6, 2013. The production recently took home five Tony® Awards, the most of any play this season, including Best Scenic Design (Donyale Werle), Best Lighting Design (Jeff Croiter), Best Costume Design (Paloma Young), and Best Sound Design (Darron L West).

In this innovative and imaginative new play, based on The New York Times best selling Disney-Hyperion novel by Dave Barry and Ridley Pearson, a company of twelve actors plays more than a hundred unforgettable characters, all on a journey to answer the century-old question: How did Peter Pan become The Boy Who Never Grew Up? This epic origin story of one of popular culture’s most enduring and beloved characters proves that an audience’s imagination can be the most captivating place in the world.

The cast of the acclaimed production includes Adam Chanler-Berat, Celia Keenan-Bolger, Matthew Saldivar, Teddy Bergman, Arnie Burton, Matt D’Amico, Kevin Del Aguila, Carson Elrod, Evan Harrington, Rick Holmes, Isaiah Johnson, Eric Petersen, Betsy Hogg, Orville Mendoza, Jason Ralph and John Sanders.

The full creative team for Peter and the Starcatcher includes: Wayne Barker (Music), Steven Hoggett (Movement), Marco Paguia (Music Direction), Donyale Werle (Scenic Design), Paloma Young (Costume Design), Jeff Croiter (Lighting Design) and Darron L West (Sound Design).
