PBS launches a new documentary series, BROADWAY OR BUST, chronicling the lives of America's top high school musical perfomers and The Jimmy Awards in New York City, according to PBS' just-released fall 2012 line-up, which you can read in detail on BroadwayWorld here.

Broadway Or Bust will air Sundays, September 9-23, 2012, 8-9 p.m. EST.

The three-part documentary series tracks the real-life stories of America’s top high school musical performers, vying in the ultimate competition to find the nation’s best young theater stars. Part competition, part performance and part non-fiction drama, the series starts in regional theatrical programs, then moves to New York City, where the “best of the best” compete in the National High School Musical Theatre Awards (a.k.a. The Jimmy Awards).

Each hour-long program will have a clear and dramatic story arc that ends with a cliffhanger. The series will zero in on the 10 strongest characters and track them 24/7, from the moment they leave their hometowns to their arrival on Broadway, through to the finale.

The series will compete alongside other popular musical theater-themed shows such as FOX's GLEE and NBC's SMASH.
