Operama Holds Auditions for GITANA, 6/1 & 6/6

For ALL ROLES for the Operama production of the original modern popular opera titled Gitana which will be debut in Milan in September/October 2011 followed by an Italian tour over the 2011/2012 season with over 60 performances programmed.

The production will then go on a European tour in process of definition that will include performance dates in Spain, France, Germany Great Britain and the USA. The auditions will be held: on 1 June 2011 at the Italian Institute of Culture of New York, 686 Park Avenue, from 10 am till 4 pm and;
on 6 June 2011 at the Italian Institute of Culture of Los Angeles, 1023 Hilgard Ave, from 10 am till 4 pm.

Each candidate may present two arias or classical songs and will be accompanied by a pianist provided for by the production. Singers that will be preselected at the auditions, will be given a score from the opera Gitana they will be required to study and prepare for a second round of selections. These final selections can be either live or alternatively can be conducted by submitting by post or e-mail a recording of the assigned aria.

The opportunity is open to singers of all nationalities, affirmed artists and young emerging ones, even completing their musical/singing studies; age limit is 45 for females and 50 for males. Several casts need to be formed for the tour in Italy and other European countries. Candidates are required to be able to perform in Italian and in English, more languages welcome.

Selected singers will be contracted to be introduced in the casts of the Gitana production for performances to take place in Italy, Great Britain, USA and possibly in other countries where "Gitana" is planned to be presented. Contracted singers will receive a cachet of between USD 300 and USD 1000 per performance, depending on role and number of performances assigned by contract. Travel and accommodation are provided for by the production. The selection judges of the audition are part of the Operama staff who will travel from Italy to the USA for the purpose.

There is an enrolment fee of EUR 50 (hall rental and accompanist hiring and other connected costs contribution) that can be paid by bank wire or with Pay Pal. Selected singers will also have the opportunity to be introduced to Operama's opera programming in Italy and other European countries for 2012.
