Operacion Clown Comes To McCullough Theatre 9/15-16

By:

Texas Performing Arts' 2010-2011 Season is proud to highlight Mexico's 2010 Bicentennial and Centennial celebrations with performances that emphasize the richness and diversity of Mexican performing arts. Our first offering is two evenings of unique theatre from Veracruz, Mexico, Operación Clown, performing the U.S. debut of their hilarious comedy Cállate (Shut Up), Wednesday, September 15, 2010 at 7:00 pm (performed in Spanish) & Thursday, September 16, 2010 at 8:00 pm (performed in English) at the McCullough Theatre.

Operación Clown is renowned for their innovative use of masks, puppets, and cabaret theatre based on theatrical clown technique. Their acclaimed piece Cállate is narrated with an explosive mixture of melodrama and irreverent humor. This love story set at the time of the Mexican Revolution combines drama, comedy, wrestling, and images inspired by the Golden Age of Mexican cinema to fuel a cast of characters based on stereotypes of the period.

Operación Clown is presented by Texas Performing Arts' ArtesAméricas program. In partnership with the Teresa Lozano Long Institute of Latin American Studies, ArtesAméricas promotes cultural dialogue in the Americas through the performing arts. For more information, please visit artesamericas.org.

Other Texas Performing Arts performances highlighting Mexico 2010 include contemporary dance company Delfos Danza Contemporánea at Bass Concert Hall on Thursday, September 23 and new music superstar Jordi Savall at Bates Recital Hall on Sunday, October 3.

Campus & Community Engagement Event:
Join us for a post-performance talkback in the hall with members of Operación Clown immediately following the Thursday, September 16 performance.
