Oklahoma! Open Casting Call At Lake Worth Playhouse

OPEN CASTING CALL FOR OKLAHOMA! AT LAKE WORTH PLAYHOUSE

Auditions for OKLAHOMA! will be held at 7:00 p.m. on August 11 and August 12, 2009 at the Lake Worth Playhouse, 713 Lake Avenue in Downtown Lake Worth. This is an open casting call. All are invited to audition, and no appointment is necessary.
        
Singing and dancing are required for the audition.  Performers should choose 16 bars of music and bring sheet music or a CD without vocals to the audition. It is best to sing a Broadway show tune that reflects the style of the show. Top 40 music should be avoided.  A dance will be provided for the dance portion of the audition. Performers should wear comfortable clothing and shoes suitable for dancing. 

The Lake Worth Playhouse is a not-for-profit community theatre. Actors are not paid for appearing in Lake Worth Playhouse productions.

The Playhouse is seeking actors to play the following roles. Please note that ages listed are ages of the characters and do not necessarily have to be the true ages of actors portraying them. 

• Laurey (late teens-early 20s, soprano) Young innocent farm girl.
• Curly (20s-30s, baritone) Earnest cowboy, open and forthright.
• Jud(30s, bass). Surly, mysterious farmhand...dangerous.
• Ado Annie (teens-early 20s, comic role, singer) Naïve farm girl struggling with her identity.
• Will Parker (20s-30s, baritone, comic role, tenor, dancer) Small town cowboy, naïve to the ways of the world.
• Aunte Eller (40s-50s, alto) Matriarch of the community, forthright and down to earth.
• Ali Hakim (30s, baritone) Charming huckster who creates a foreign persona.
• Andrew Carnes (50s) Ado Annie's father, a no-nonsense county judge.
• Ike Skidmore (50s) A rancher, leader of the community.
• Gertie Cummings (late teens-early 20s) Laurey's rival; she has an irritating laugh.
• Cord Elam (40s) Federal marshal.
• Dream Laurey Strong dancer with acting ability
• Dream Curly Strong dancer with acting ability
• Chorus - Other roles to be cast from the chorus include Ellen, Kate, Sylvie, Armina, Aggie, Jess, Fred, Slim, Fry, Chalmers, Mike, Joe and Sam. We need strong singers and dancers of all ages to play women, young girls, farmers and cowboys. Ballet background is welcomed but not essential. 

About OKLAHOMA!                 
This is Rodgers & Hammerstein's first collaboration and, in many ways, their most innovative. Set in a Western Indian territory just after the turn of the century, a high-spirited rivalry between the local farmers and cowboys provides the colorful backdrop against which Curly, a handsome cowboy, and Laurey, a winsome farm girl, play out their love story. Although the road to true love is seldom smooth, with these two headstrong romantics holding the reins, love's journey is as bumpy as a surrey ride down a country road. But we're pulling for them every step of the way to succeed in making a new life together, and excited that they'll being doing it in "a brand new state" - the triumphant OKLAHOMA!

Lake Worth Playhouse is a not-for-profit, non-Equity Community Theatre with a diverse array of offerings, including award-winning dramas, comedies, musicals, area premieres, Broadway favorites, children's shows, ballets and operas on film, live concerts, improve comedy and alternative programming. In addition to its main stage theatrical fare, The Playhouse presents year-round independent and foreign films in the Stonzek Theatre, an intimate black-box style theatre equipped with a large viewing screen and high-definition projection.
