Off-Strip Productions Announces 2011 Sin City New Play Contest
As part of its ongoing commitment to developing the arts in Las Vegas, Off-Strip Productions has created a new contest for emerging playwrights, called THE SIN CITY NEW PLAY CONTEST. The contest is open to United States residents, and submissions will be accepted now through October 1st, 2011.
The winner of the contest will receive a $250 prize, a full production in the 2012 Off-Strip Productions season at the Onyx Theatre in Las Vegas, as well as a publication and licensing contract from Original Works Publishing, the home for bold, original, innovative new plays.
Playwrights may submit only one play for consideration. Unpublished, full length contemporary plays with a cast size of no more than 7 performers intended for audiences of ages 18 and up will be considered. No musicals, adaptations, translations, or works for younger audiences will be considered. While most contests of this nature only allow for unproduced works, this contest is unique in that in addition to unproduced works, it is also open to plays that have received only one full production in the last five years as well as MFA thesis plays.
Five finalists will receive a public reading at the Onyx Theatre in November 2011. The winner will be selected by audience vote and an official panel of judges from Off-Strip Productions.
Playwrights should submit their works to the contest by sending a single PDF or Word document, including complete author contact information, to: onyxplaysubmissions@gmail.com. Finalists will be notified by email. The winner of the contest will be notified by email and phone.
