'Octopus' Extends Through June 22nd
Magic Theatre and Encore Theatre Company are extending the critically-acclaimed production of OCTOPUS, a new play by Steve Yockey, directed by Kate Warner through June 22. The previously announced schedule continues through June 8 with the two extension weeks featuring six performances Thursday through Saturday at 8pm. Up-and-coming playwright's national debut is the first co-production between San Francisco's leading new plays companies. Critics have called Mr. Yockey "a fiercely imaginative and finely tuned new voice... [Octopus'] tentacles tickle the funny bone, awake the mind and tug on the heart." (San Francisco Chronicle) and the production has been called "an evening full of arresting images… classic tragedy seen through a very contemporary ironic lens" (Marin Independent Journal). A love story rendered through a post-modern gay lens, OCTOPUS examines the fallout of one night of lust on four men. This universal story of love, jealousy, and commitment commingles with a mysterious telegram delivery boy and a ravenous monster from the ocean floor. The production features actors Liam Vincent, Rowan Brooks, Patrick Alparone, Eric Kerr, and marks the return to stage after a five years hiatus of Theatre Bay Area Executive Director Brad Erickson. OCTOPUS received a developmental workshop at the Magic through New Voices West Series made possible by a generous grant from The Tournesol Project and performs through June 22, 2008 at Magic's Sam Shepard Theatre (Bldg D, Fort Mason Center, San Francisco, CA – parking lot entrance at Marina Blvd. and Buchanan St.).
