Ocean State Theater Company's PETER PAN Cast Donates Their Hair To Charity

In preparation for their roles in Ocean State Theatre Company's production of Peter Pan currently on stage at Theatre By The Sea, three young teenage actresses, Lauren Avarista of Narragansett, Cassie Collinson of West Kingston, and Caroline Jackson of Marlborough, Ct., decided to turn their transformation from young women to "lost boys" into a good deed by donating over 32" of hair to the Pantene Beautiful Lengths program, which weaves donated hair into real-hair wigs for cancer patients.

"I am so proud of these girls for taking the initiative of helping others," said Amiee Turner, Producing Artistic Director. "They were all very willing to have their hair cut for the show, but immediately suggested that it be donated."

Each of the girls was able to donate between 10-12 inches of hair to Pantene Beautiful Lengths. Creating a real-hair wig takes approximately three to four months, and each wig requires at least six ponytails to make. As Pantene Beautiful Lengths wigs are created, they are distributed for free through select American Cancer Society wig banks across the country. Women facing cancer can find out about the availability of a Pantene Beautiful Lengths wig by calling the American Cancer Society at 1-877-227-1596. The Society can also help callers with a number of resources providing educational and emotional support. Peter Pan will be presented at Theatre By The Sea through August 8, with performances scheduled for Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday evenings at 8 pm, Thursdays at 2 pm, Saturdays at 4:30 & 8:30 pm, and Sunday evenings at 5 pm. The theatre is located at 364 Cards Pond Road, Matunuck, RI.
