ONE Brings Long-lost Lovers Together At Spoon Theater

By:

Long-lost love letters form a possible lifeline to three individuals in crisis in Joseph McDonough haunting and lyrical drama ONE. The inaugural theatrical presentation by World Players, Inc., and directed by Joshua Paul Johnson, the production will be performed at the Spoon Theatre, located at 38 West 38th Street for three performances only, beginning February 13th.

Emily is an everyday girl drowning in her daily routine, so she decides to meet the man of her dreams - Kyle, the star "Heavenly Captain", a TV show based on a book of real Civil War love letters - at his appearance at her local shopping mall. Kyle's burned out on the endless Hollywood one night stand lifestyle, looking for real and true love, and is in town to attend his high school reunion and maybe reconnect with his old high school flame Jill - the "one who got away". But Jill would rather reconnect with a good book instead of going to the reunion, unless her mother can exert enough Catholic guilt on her for Jill to want to save her own soul!

But while each person is desperately searching for the physical and spiritual closure they believe can make them whole, they may not find what they seek. Or, if they do, they may not be prepared to confront the resulting reality that comes with it. This is a fascinating, deeply felt play about the search for faith, truth, and love - and the connections we have with each other in seeking them, both consciously and unconsciously.

The cast of ONE features Danny David as Kyle, Luciana Faulhaber as Jill and Emily Trucker as Emily.

Joseph McDonough's works have been produced and developed at theatres around the country. He has been the resident playwright at the Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park since 2003, where his plays One and Stone My Heart received their world premiere productions and his play Travels of Angelica was the 2008 winner of the Mickey Kaplan New American Play Prize. (Travels of Angelica is being produced at the Cincinnati Playhouse in January and February of 2009.) McDonough's other plays include Morning Dancer and Wayfarer's Rest. He is a member of the Playwrights Workshop at the Players Club in New York, New River Dramatists, and the Dramatists Guild. He previously studied playwriting with Edward Albee and Michael Weller.

Joshua Paul Johnson is a director, playwright, and actor. After graduating from the American Musical and Dramatic Academy, Joshua became a marionette puppeteer for Puppets in the Park in Central Park. He later served as the personal assistant to dance choreographer Merce Cunningham. His most recent written work Gravy Lane was shown at the Shotgun Theater Festival. Other plays include String, Strang, Strung: A Play on Words and Love and Sentimental Furies From Home.

A native of Brazil and a former teacher, Luciana Faulhaber founded World Players, Inc. in 2008. The company is dedicated to multicultural casting and giving back to the community. ONE will be their debut production.

Running for Three Performances Only, ONE will be performed at the Spoon Theatre, located at 38 West 38th Street (between 5th & 6th Avenues) on the 5th Floor. Please Note: The theatre is wheelchair accessible.

Show times are Friday, February 13th at 8pm and Saturday, February 14th at 3pm & 8pm. Tickets are $13.00. Reservations: www.smarttix.com.
