Northland Symphony Orchestra Kicks Off Its 43rd Season

By:

With the stresses of the everyday 9-5, what better way to relax than to spend a Sunday afternoon listening to classical music? Come join the Northland Symphony Orchestra for their season opening concert on Sunday, October 18th at 3.00pm at the Park Hill South High School in Riverside, MO. All performances are FREE to the public!

The tone for the performance will be set by Sergei Prokofiev's Symphony No. 7- his final and most simplistic symphony, it was completed in 1952 and best known as the Children's Symphony. From there, the orchestra will continue the children's theme with Claude Debussy's Children's Corner. This suite of six piano pieces, orchestrated by Andre Caplet in 1911, was written for Debussy's three-year-old daughter as a reminiscence of childhood. Third in the program, the NSO will perform another piano piece of Debussy's known as Claire de lune, arranged for orchestra by Arthur Luck. Finally, closing the concert will be a movement by Czech composer Bed?ich Smetana called The Moldau. This symphonic poem depicts the ebb and flow of the river Vltava.

The Northland Symphony Orchestra is a non-profit organization who is proud to have been providing free orchestral concerts to the Kansas City area since 1966. It is comprised of student, community, and professional musicians from throughout the metro area and strives to improve the cultural and educational experiences of its community.
