North Carolina Symphony Hosts Idina Menzel in One-Night-Only Concert 3/31
Idina Menzel, star of Wicked, Rent and Fox's hit television show Glee, lends her powerhouse vocal talents to the North Carolina Symphony in her first-ever Raleigh concert next week. Bringing a diverse repertoire of pop and musical theater favorites and songs from her solo album I Stand, she takes the stage at Meymandi Concert Hall, in downtown Raleigh's Progress Energy Center for the Performing Arts, Thursday, March 31, at 7:30 p.m.
Menzel originated two of the most celebrated roles in recent Broadway history: Elphaba, the witch, in director Joe Mantello's smash-hit production of Wicked, and spirited performance artist Maureen in Jonathan Larson's Pulitzer Prize-winning Rent. In addition to earning the Tony Award for Lead Actress in a Musical for her work as the misunderstood green girl, Menzel has been nominated for a second Tony, two Drama Desk Awards and a Drama League Award. She recently appeared in the television hit Glee, and is currently on a sold-out tour, performing with leading orchestras around the country.
The concert, led by guest conductor Matthew Kraemer, will be performed without intermission. Drinks purchased inside the Progress Energy Center will be allowed in the hall. The Progress Energy Center for the Performing Arts is located at 2 E. South St. in Raleigh.
