North Carolina Symphony Broadcast on WUNC 91.5FM

By:

The North Carolina Symphony and WUNC 91.5FM have partnered to present great music for a summer evening all season long. From now until August 29, favorite Symphony performances will be broadcast every Monday night from 10:00 p.m. to midnight and stream online at wunc.org.

Legendary broadcaster David Hartman hosts a program of music recorded live in Raleigh's Meymandi Concert Hall, as well as interviews and insights into some of the finest compositions ever written.

Tonight's program features guest conductor Carlos Miguel Prieto leading the North Carolina Symphony in a powerhouse orchestral showcase.

GINASTERA: Variaciones Concertantes

COPLAND: Suite from Billy the Kid

RACHMANINOFF: Symphonic Dances

"It is doubtless a source of orchestral pride that all the principals can display that lofty level of talent," wrote Classical Voice North Carolina writer Paul D. Williams following the concert's live performance in February, going on to label the evening, "A crowd-pleasing success all the way."

North Carolina Symphony broadcasts on WUNC 91.5FM are supported by Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina. Learn more about tonight's program and upcoming broadcasts at wunc.org/programs/north-carolina-symphony-concert-series.

Founded in 1932, the North Carolina Symphony performs over 175 concerts annually to adults and school children. The orchestra travels extensively throughout the state to venues in over 50 North Carolina counties. Under the artistic leadership of Music Director and Conductor Grant Llewellyn, Resident Conductor William Henry Curry and Associate Conductor Sarah Hicks, the orchestra employs 67 professional musicians.

Based in downtown Raleigh's spectacular Meymandi Concert Hall at the Progress Energy Center for the Performing Arts and an outdoor summer venue at Koka Booth Amphitheatre in Cary, N.C., the Symphony performs about 60 concerts annually in the Raleigh, Durham, Chapel Hill and Cary metropolitan area. It also holds concerts in Fayetteville, New Bern, Southern Pines, Wilmington and many other North Carolina communities throughout the year.
