The Dirty Rotten Producers are proud to announce that their Tony
Award-winning star,
Norbert Leo Butz, has extended his contract, and will
continue with the hit show through July, 2006.
Butz, who created the role of grifter 'Freddy Benson' as the Jeffrey Lane /
David Yazbek musical began its life in September 2004 (Old Globe Theatre,
San Diego), received unanimous raves when the show opened on Broadway (March
3, 2005). He went on to win virtually every theatre award for his
performance: the Tony Award, Drama Desk Award, Outer Critics Circle Award
(Best Performance - Actor in a Musical); the Astaire Award (Male Dancer of
the Year); and the Drama League Award (Outstanding Performance of the Year).
Upon re-signing his contract, Norbert said, "To do this show is nothing less
than a dream. And I just don't want to wake up yet."
DIRTY ROTTEN SCOUNDRELS won the 2005 Drama League Award as Best Musical, and
was nominated for 11 Tony Awards. With a book by Jeffrey Lane and music and
lyrics by David Yazbek (The Full Monty) DIRTY ROTTEN SCOUNDRELS stars John
Lithgow, Sherie Rene Scott, Joanna Gleason, Gregory Jbara and Sara
Gettelfinger. The production is directed by two-time Tony Award winner Jack
O'Brien and choreographed by Tony Award-winner Jerry Mitchell.
