Nick Scandalios, Albert Nocciolino, Robert E. Wankel Join Broadway League Board of Governors

Broadway-League-20010101

Broadway continues its 2011-2012 season momentum. In addition to the 19 shows that have already opened this season – joining the 17 long-running shows currently playing on the boards - over 16 more shows have announced opening dates this spring, with more expected to announce.

The Broadway League announces three new Officers elected to its Board of Governors: Nick Scandalios as Chairman of the Board, Albert Nocciolino as Vice Chairman of the Road, and Robert E. Wankel as Secretary/Treasurer. Results of elections for the new Board of Governors can be found at: http://www.broadwayleague.com/index.php?url_identifier=board-of-governors

The Broadway League membership includes theatre owners, producers, presenters from around the country, press agents, general managers, booking agents, advertising agencies, and industry specialists who represent the various shops that construct scenery, costumes and props.

Nick Scandalios, Chairman of The Broadway League and Executive Vice President of the Nederlander Organization, commented, "I am honored to be following in the footsteps of our Immediate Past Chair, Paul Libin, whose passion and devotion have inspired me and so many countless others in our unique business. I look forward to working with our members to help Broadway and Touring Broadway grow and change in the coming years in order to delight the millions of fans who will be entering the doors of our theatres. I am dedicated to Broadway remaining the most influential of all live entertainment mediums in our national culture."

“It is very exciting to have three such seasoned experts taking on important leadership roles at the League as we get ready to enter a new year. Thanks to the tireless work of Immediate Past Chairs, Board of Governors, Executive Committee and members overall, we are feeling strong and ready to build on our momentum moving forward,” said Charlotte St. Martin, Executive Director of The Broadway League. “Nick Scandalios has spent 25 years at the Nederlander Organization. With their 9 theatres in New York, 12 outside of New York, and 3 in London, his expertise in the New York City and Touring Broadway producing environments brings us unmatched representation of Broadway across the United States. Al Nocciolino has led the Independent Presenters Network, representing producers across the country. His company’s representation of Broadway in nearly 10 markets in New York State and Pennsylvania, and his passion for the business of Broadway nationwide makes him an asset for the League and the multiple committees where he serves tirelessly. Bob Wankel’s tenure and leadership at The Shubert Organization which owns 17 out of 40 Broadway theatres along with his affiliations with Times Square Alliance and numerous educational and charitable organizations brings a vast level of experience and we appreciate his time and dedication.”

Nick Scandalios is the Executive Vice President of the Nederlander Organization, one of the largest owners of legitimate theatres in the world, as well as one of the largest theatrical producing organizations in North America. He is the Chairman of The Broadway League and on the Board of Trustees for Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS and Vice Chairman of Family Equality Council. This year will mark his 25th anniversary with the Nederlander Organization. Nederlander owns or operates theatres in New York, NY; Los Angeles, CA; Chicago, IL; San Diego, CA; San Jose, CA; Riverside, CA; Tucson, AZ; North Charleston, SC; Durham, NC and London, England. The Nederlander Organization is currently represented on Broadway by the following productions: Relatively Speaking, Wicked, The Addams Family, Follies, Disney’s The Lion King, Priscilla Queen of the Desert, The Gershwins’ Porgy & Bess and the upcoming productions of Ghost, Evita, Newsies, and Jesus Christ Superstar.
