On Friday March 26, New York Theatre Workshop will host a closed reading of THE CONSEQUENCES, a new musical by Kyle Jarrow and Nathan Leigh. A bittersweet indie rock love story about roads not taken and dreams not followed, THE CONSEQUENCES is a winking deconstruction of the romantic comedy genre, exploring themes of fate, choice and the difficulty of knowing one's own heart.
Jeremy is 31 years old, a software developer who's about to get married. Ellie is 28 years old, a singer-songwriter who's about to get dumped by her record label. Back in high school, they were deeply in love and certain they'd spend the rest of their lives together. It didn't work out quite the way they thought. When they're brought back together, ten years later, they start to wonder if maybe they're meant to be together after all.
The reading will be directed by Evan Cabnet (Ooh-Rah, Gingerbread House) and features performances from Zachary Prince (Jersey Boys, Moises Kaufman's Into the Woods), Ana Noguiera (Boy in the Bathroom, Barrio Grrrl!), and Matt Walton (Gorilla Man, Burn After Reading). The band will feature Nathan Leigh, Arvi Sreenivasan, and Eric Day. Casting by Henry Bergstein Russell.
Kyle Jarrow is a Brooklyn-based writer and musician whose plays include Whisper House (written with Duncan Sheik, recently premiered at the Old Globe Theatre), A Very Merry Unauthorized Children's Scientology Pageant (Obie Award), Hostage Song, and the upcoming Love Kills among others. His movie Armless was an official selection of the Sundance Film Festival 2010. He also plays in the rock bands The Fabulous Entourage and Super Mirage. NATHAN LEIGH has made a name for himself as a prolific composer, inventive producer, and energetic performer. As the singer and guitarist for Boston indie / latin duo A Thousand Ships and Brooklyn's synth-pop quartet Super Mirage, Nathan has performed at some of the Northeast's best venues including The Middle East, Copperfield's, Felt, The Webster Theatre, The Annex, and Piano's. As a composer and sound designer, Nathan's work has graced the stages of theatres across the country including the Williamstown Theatre Festival, The Berkshire Theatre Festival, PS122, Speakeasy Stage Company, and Connecticut Repertory Theatre. He has also collaborated with Kyle Jarrow on the score for Big Money. Gothamist awarded him Best Sound Designer of 2007 for his work on The Debate Society's The Eaten Heart.
