New Rep Presents 'Pinter Duet: The Lover & Ashes to Ashes' Opens Jan.23

By:

In one night, New Repertory Theatre is offering two dangerously seductive Harold Pinter one-acts at the Arsenal Center for the Arts.  These plays, written in Pinter's signature style, offer two views about infidelity and its ability to arouse desires and enrage jealousies.  A Pinter Duet: The Lover & Ashes to Ashes, opens Wednesday, January 23, 2008 at 8:00 p.m. and plays through February 10, 2008.

"This duet of Pinter one-acts explores how elegant lives can be shaken by sexual jealousies. The evening begins with The Lover: as a husband and wife discuss their affairs openly and playfully, this erotically charged tale reveals the necessity and danger of fantasy. The second half of the evening presents a darker side of jealousy with Ashes to Ashes, another account of a husband and wife discussing adultery, only this time the game is fun for neither. These intensely sadistic and pleasurable pieces give us two unique looks at how deeply our passions run and how cold they turn our blood, potentially polluting memory and perception," explain press notes.

New Repertory Theatre, in residence at the Arsenal Center for the Arts (321 Arsenal Street, Watertown, MA 02472) presents A Pinter Duet: The Lover & Ashes to Ashes by Harold Pinter, directed by Rick Lombardo.

The cast features Rachel Harker and Stephn Russel; creative design includes Chip Shoonmaker (costumes) and Jaime Whoolery (lighting).
