New Georges Announces Add't 'Stretch' Performance 6/28

By:

New Georges (www.newgeorges.org) has announced that its production of Artistic Director Susan Bernfield's politically charged comedy-drama "STRETCH (a fantasia)," directed by Emma Griffin, with music by Rachel Peters will extend for one performance at The Living Theater, 21 Clinton Street (between E. Houston and Stanton Streets). Performances were scheduled to end on Monday, May 26. There will now be one additional performance on Wednesday, May 28 at 8:00 p.m. (The remaining schedule will be Thursday, May 22 through Monday, May 26 and Wednesday, May 28, all remaining performances at 8:00 p.m.) Tickets are $20.00. Students and seniors $18.00. The Monday night performance is a "pay-what-you-will" at the door only. TDF vouchers accepted. The box office number for reservations is 212-868-4444 or www.smarttix.com.

"STRETCH" imagines the final days of Rose Mary Woods, Richard M. Nixon's longtime loyal secretary, as she observes the presidential election of 2004 from a nursing home in the swing state of Ohio. In her mind and in conversations with ordinary people at the home she blends the past with the present while thinking about power, loyalty, and lying. Kristin Griffith, the Broadway, film, television actress and longtime Ensemble Studio Theatre member often remembered for her appearance in Woody Allen's first screen drama Interiors portrays Woods.

The New York Times said "Kristin Griffith's performance is commanding. Credit Evan Thompson, Eric Clem and Brian Gerard Murray with making their own distinctive contributions to this inventive work by Susan Bernfield. Ms. Bernfield, in dialogue that is lyrical and stark at the same time, has Rose Mary Woods (Griffith) taking us on a tour through Nixonian history without getting bogged down in the details. The role repeatedly requires Ms. Griffith to accomplish a radical transformation in an eye blink, and she couldn't be more convincing."
