New Absurdist Comedy CRACKED (Upon A Time) Runs At Producer's Club 6/24-30

By:

CRACKED (Upon A Time), a new absurdist comedy that explores the meaning of life through the relationship of two longtime friends, will get its world premiere at The Producer's Club, running June 24-30. CRACKED (Upon A Time) is being presented by New York based theatre company The Royal Pyngwyn Collective, and is written and directed by Josiah Houston. Houston in his youth was a celebrated and critically acclaimed performance poet, appearing on 60 Minutes on CBS.

In the play, three chairs sit at the foot of a graveyard: Alfred's chair, Percy's chair, and the "death seat." Alfred, an older man, is writing into a large black leather bound book but in the end it is Percy, an old man, who labors upon the blank page. In the game of Life, the potent ramblings and hysterical bickering between these ancient companions explore memory, love, luck, fear, trust, choices to be made, time to be passed, and the desire to avoid ending before they conclude that ‘Everyman must go through life on his own.'

The cast features Brent Wellington Barker III (as Alfred) and Matt Alspaugh (as Percy), and the creative team includes Laura Folker (Costume Designer), Dean Palmer Jr. (Lighting Designer) Mike Skinner (Sound Designer) and Julius Stone (Makeup and Hair).

CRACKED (Upon A Time) will be preceded by Drowning The Sun, a new short play also written and directed by Josiah Houston. In the play, when a traveling couple reaches a city of castles, brick, and stone, love becomes foreign, the search for home dissolves, and a pure moment arrives before they experience their ending. The cast of Drowning The Sun features Stephen Ellis and Tayo Jolaosho.

Running June 24-30 at The Producer's Club Crowne Theatre (358 West 44th Street, between 8th and 9th Avenues), all performances are at 8pm (with an additional 2pm matinee on Sunday, June 28th). Tickets are $20 and can be bought at the door or online at www.RoyalPyngwyn.com. For more info on tickets, call 203-494-3028.

The Royal Pyngwyn Collective is a theater company dedicated to the collaborative theatrical birthing process: parenting the union of expressions - visual, audible, physical, and theoretical. We have built our nest on Manhattan Island, and in order to ensure the survival of our species, have dedicated ourselves to the nurturing of each unique idea as if it were a fragile egg. Devoted to carefully providing it with warmth and safety, until it cracks, sprouts feathers, and enters the world on its own two feet to join the masses. The Pyngwyn Revolution is coming...www.RoyalPyngwyn.com
