The modern adaptation of the Broadway musical was just one of the studio's hacked movies. Fury, Still Alice and Mr. Turner DVD screeners appeared online, along with To Write Love On Her Arms.
Sony was attacked on Monday by hackers calling themselves 'Guardians of Peace'. A SPE spokesperson said last night, "The theft of Sony Pictures Entertainment content is a criminal matter, and we are working closely with law enforcement to address it."
ANNIE is set for release on December 19. No word on how big the leak is or what impact it will have on the film's success at the box office.
The ANNIE reboot is an all-new, modern-day adaptation of the stage musical, set in contemporary New York City, featuring several departures from the stage musical and subsequent film adaptations.
ANNIE is directed by Will Gluck from a script by Emma Thompson and Aline Brosh McKenna, starring Quvenzhane Wallis as Annie, Jamie Foxx as Benjamin Stacks (aka Daddy Warbucks), Cameron Diaz as Miss Hannigan along with Rose Byrne as Grace Farrell and Bobby Cannavale in a new role. The starry roster of producers for the film include Will Smith and Jay Z, who also serves as music supervisor.
The original stage musical of ANNIE was based on Harold Gray's 1924 comic strip LITTLE ORPHAN ANNIE and was directed by Martin Charnin, featuring music by Charles Strouse, lyrics by Charnin and a book byThomas Meehan. Subsequently, the musical has been revived on Broadway twice, with the most recent revival playing at the Palace Theatre, directed by James Lapine and starring Lilla Crawford in the title role.
