Neil LaBute May Direct New Film with Samuel L. Jackson

By:

According to the Hollywood Reporter, acclaimed playwright and filmmaker Neil LaBute may soon be directing a new movie.

LaBute, whose In a Dark, Dark House will begin at MCC Theater this May, is in talks to helm Screen Gems' Lakeview Terrace, which will star Samuel L. Jackson, Kerry Washington and possibly Ashton Kutcher.

Filming for Lakeview Terrace, which is written by David Loughery (with rewrites to be made by Howard Korder), will begin in June.  Loughery and Jeff Graup will be the film's executive producers, while Will Smith and James Lassiter will produce through Overbrook Entertainment.  The film concerns an interracial couple of whom a L.A.P.D. officer (played by Jackson) disapproves.

LaBute's plays include Wrecks, Some Girl(s), Fat Pig, This is How It Goes, The Distance from Here and The Shape of Things (the latter was adapted into a film).  His film credits include The Wicker Man, Possession, Your Friends and Neighbors, Nurse Betty and The Company of Men.
