Nashville Children's Theatre Unveils 2012-2013 Season Headlined by Steven Dietz's SHERLOCK HOLMES

Nashville Children's Theatre will launch its 81^st season with  Sherlock Holmes: The Final Adventure-a full-length play by Steven Dietz, one of  America's top contemporary playwrights-running September 13-October 7 at the theater.

A full-length play that runs over 90 minutes? At NCT? It's a definite change of pace, but managing director Kathryn Colegrove says the script offers NCT a "thrilling opportunity" for both family and adult audiences.

 "NCT is a cultural touchstone for generations of children who have grown up in Middle Tennessee," Colegrove says. "The ripples from our work have been felt and noted throughout the country and around the world, but our focus is-as it always has been-on service to the children and families that make up this community. The variety of our 2012-13 season is a fantastic example of this service."

NCT's 2012-13 season includes three titles that are new to NCT, and two previously produced audience favorites.

Along with Sherlock Holmes: The Final Adventure, other new productions include the  Broadway smash You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown (also a full-length play) which places fans directly into the charming, comical world of the Peanuts gang and Don't Tell Me I Can't Fly, the regional premiere of a play based on the life and art of collage artists Della Wells.

In planning each new season, NCT looks back at our history of productions to determine which titles are ready to be remounted for a new and growing audience. For 2012-13, NCT has chosen two scripts based on classic, favorite books: The Wind in the Willows and Go, Dog. Go!

- Sherlock Holmes–The Final Adventure (September 13-October 7) For families and children age 10 and up-by Steven Dietz. Based on the original 1899 play by William Gillette and Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. At the height of his powers, Sherlock Holmes has seemingly reached the end of his remarkable career when a case of blackmail pits the world's greatest detective and his brave friend, Dr. Watson, in a struggle to the death with Professor James Moriarty, the Napoleon of Crime! This entertaining and thrilling theatrical exploit, written by one of America's finest contemporary playwrights, has everything Holmes fans hope for; danger, mystery, humor, twists, turns and...romance? The game is afoot!

- You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown. (November 1- December 23)For families and children age 5 and up. Based on The Comic Strip Peanuts by Charles M. Schulz. Book, Music and Lyrics by Clark Gesner. Additional Dialogue by Michael Mayer. Additional Music and Lyrics by Andrew Lippa. Opening on Broadway in 1999, this musical revival is a fresh approach to a classic of the American musical theatre. Linus, Lucy, Sally, Schroeder, Snoopy and Charlie Brown-the most beloved gang of kids in America – will take you for a wise and hilarious romp through the world of Peanuts.

- Don't Tell Me I Can't Fly. (January 24-February 10) For families and children age 8 and up. An original play by Y York, commissioned by First Stage. Inspired by the life and art of Milwaukee collage artist Della Wells. Meet Tonia-an artistic nine-year-old with fantastic dreams of a giant future. Tonia's mom wants her to be like a doll, perfectly mannered and always the same size. Tonia's dad wants her to blend into the crowd in a world where African-Americans who stand tall are easier to cut down. This regional premiere is an engaging and humorous look at family life inspired by the life and work of collage artist Della Wells.NCT Announces 2012-13 Season – cont.

- The Wind in the Willows. (February 28 -March 24) For families and children age 6 and up. Adapted by Scot Copeland and Paul Carrol Binkley. Based on the book by Kenneth Grahame and the songs of Gilbert and Sullivan. NCT's Copeland and Binkley blended Kenneth Grahame's plot and poetry with the music and lyrics of Gilbert and Sullivan, crafting a delightful confection that is absolutely sure to please. It is spring, and little Mole emerges from hibernation to explore the wonders of peaceful life along the riverbank with his new friend, Ratty. Peaceful, that is, until the irrepressible Mr. Toad develops a most unsavory obsession with...motorcars. Not even wise Old Badger can prevent Toad's disastrous dash down the road to ruin, and soon Toad is in jail and Toad Hall is in the hands of Weasels!

- Go, Dog. Go! (April 11-May 19) For families and children of all ages. Adapted by Allison Gregory and Steven Dietz. Adapted from the book Go, Dog. Go! by P.D. Eastman. Music composed by Michael Koerner,"Do You Like My Hat?" Lyrics by Michael Koerner. The big dog party is back by popular demand in an all-new production! This innovative adaptation of one of the best-loved books for early readers bursts to life on NCT's stage in an explosion of movement, a kaleidoscope of color and a circus-wagon load of clowning. Join Red Dog, Blue Dog, Yellow Dog and Green Dog as they bark, scoot, scratch, drive, and howl at the moon. Go, Dog. Go! is an exhilarating celebration of childhood for children of all ages.

Flex Pass Subscriptions: A Flex Pass provides the freedom of single tickets while still offering subscriber benefits. For $72, a Flex Pass is redeemable for 6 tickets to use anytime in the season – for a child or an adult. Flex Pass Subscriptions are only on sale until August 6, but once bought, Flex Pass subscribers may purchase additional tickets all season long at the $12 price.

Standard Subscriptions: For patrons who know what they want and when they want it, NCT offers standard subscriptions consisting of three or more shows. Patrons can choose how many tickets they want for each individual show in their subscription, giving families the freedom to customize their ticket needs based on the ages and interests of their children.
