Arts Day in Albany is a chance to influence the NYS Budget and keep the Arts alive in your community. It will take place on Feb. 3, 2009.

As state budget negotiations heat up in Albany, artists and art leaders from all over the state will be in Albany to discuss the investment value of arts funding.

Arts Leaders will visit lawmakers in their offices to make a strong case for funding New York State Council on the Arts (NYSCA). Arts leaders will explain how state funding for the arts revitalizes communities and families and how this investment contributes to the social vitality and the economy of the entire state.

NYS ARTS organizes and coordinates Arts Day. It is the key component of the statewide online and local arts advocacy campaign. NYS ARTS maximizes the impact of Arts Day with Email Blasts and Calls to Action to the 18,600 online advocates before and after Arts Day.

On ARTS DAY you can learn about:
* Information on the history of the State's allocations to NYSCA and the status of the current budget proposals for arts funding.
* Materials for the lawmakers and their staff, which clearly explains the impact of the arts in communities.
* Advocacy tips on how to make the most effective case for appropriations to NYSCA.
* A forum to meet and network with colleagues.
* Tips & Tools to make the most of your legislative meetings.
* And Buttons to wear and leave with lawmakers reminding them of the value of the arts.

On ARTS DAY, Arts advocates meet with Senators and Assembly Members. NYS ARTS provides a headquarters where you can coordinate meeting times and pick up your handouts and buttons, and attend "tips & tools" briefings. Lawmakers hear direct, personal stories about the impact of the arts in regions across the state.
