The Golden age of the Waltz has its roots at the Vienna Congress, the brain child of Metternich for a united Europe in the early part of the 19th Century. There, Joseph Lanner and Johann Strauss (father) tried their ideas for a popular dance, which emerged from the folk-style music of the "Landler": The Waltz was born. The hysteria, which followed at the time was something indescribable: Women, Wine and Song, became the emblem of the Viennese.
