NEXUS Multicultural Arts Centre Announces Upcoming Events

The Nexus Multicultural Arts Centre announced upcoming events for the 2009 season.

DADA NII & THE DAMUSHI ENSEMBLE Saturday 7 November, 9.00pm

Dada Nii & The Damushi Ensemble inspire audiences with their traditionAl West African drumming rhythms and acoustic songs layered with glorious harmonies, impressive sax solos and Latin / jazz overtones. Experience an African musical celebration like no other!?Prices: $15 adult // $12 concession / Nexus members

MUSIC OF THE SILK ROAD Thursday 12 November, 7.30pm

The magical Silk Road region winds through soaring mountains and majestic plains, past ancient cities and desert oases. Take a journey to the heart and soul of this region with timeless music that crosses from Europe to Asia - from the songs of Sufi mystics with their hypnotic resonance, to the rhythmic folk songs of Afghanistan and the Punjab. ?Prices: $15 adult // $10 concession / Nexus members

GYPSY CRIMS Friday 13 November, 9.00pm

The Gypsy Crims are a Melbourne-based duo performing original, infectious Gypsy Flamenco music composed by guitarist Orlando and accompanied on the cajon by Michael Kontachristos. ?Prices: $15 adult // $10 concession / Nexus members

THE INAUGURAL NEXUS GUITAR WORLD CUP Saturday 14 November, 8.00pm

Five exciting guitarists representing Spain and Brazil face off in a spectacular musical grand final at the Inaugural Nexus Guitar World Cup! Featuring Aloysius Leeson and Florian on the Spanish team, and The Caliente Guitar Trio (Mike Bevan, Alain Valodze and Dylan Woolcock) representing Brazil.?Prices: $15 adult // $10 concession / Nexus members

S.o.V. Friday 4 December, 9.00pm

S.o.V. re-interprets traditional Ukrainian folk music, incorporating contemporary instrumentation, global beats and grooves from exotic instruments to create powerful, emotive and dynamic music. ?Prices: $15 adult // $12 concession / Nexus members

ORGANIC ROOTS Saturday 5 December, 9.00pm

Fronted by Nigerian-born talent Moore Black, Organic Roots fuses a vibrant mix of Samba, Calypso and Reggae with a portion of Dub and Nyabingi (African drumbeats, chanting, rap & spoken word) for a dynamic, energetic stage show that keeps audiences dancing! ?Price: All tickets $10
