NATURAL NOVICE Plays Stage Left's 2012 Women at Work Festival, 9/27 & 30
By: BWW News Desk
Natural Novice Written & Performed by Siobhan O'Loughlin Directed by Mario Giacalone As part of the 2012 Women at Work Festival tonight, September 27th and 30th, 2012.
Natural Novice is a comic exploration of what it means to move from a commune to New York City as a woman who doesn't shave, well, any part of her body. Is being hairy totally unsexy? Is it much too difficult to be true to ourselves and also fit into the world around us? These questions are explored through O’Loughlin’s personal stories as well as the stories of four different women she’s interviewed on their adventures in shaving, waxing, and everything (or nothing) in between. Natural Novice is a comedic human study of the implications of a woman not shaving her armpits, but also a feminist critique of the social structures of aesthetic, and how a woman defines herself, no matter what she looks like.Photo Credit: Zack DeZon
