Musicals Tonight Presents THEODORE & CO., 3/15-27
By: Nicole Rosky
Ivor Novello composed the W.W. I British patriotic standard "Keep the Home Fires Burning" in 1914 and his first musical in 1916 - Theodore & Co. With 5 songs by Jerome Kern, this British hit is being given its American premiere by Musicals Tonight.
Lord Theodore (Kevin Greene), being "the second son", has no money. For a fee, he offers "personal services" to his social set. The 24th Duke of Shetland (Michael Fitzpatrick) needs guests for a fancy party and asks his nephew Theo to provide them. Theo and his "company" sell expensive tickets to the affair and we see the high and low of 1916 London society. The gigolo, Cosmo, (David Sattler) has designs on Lady Pansy (Annemarie Rosano). Mrs. Blisset (Amy Arbizzani) is looking to find an employer for her husband (Jackson Ross Best, Jr.). Lord Wye (James Beaman) is seeking to get away from his wife (Anne Bobby). Pony (Topher Nuccio), Theo's right hand man, is instructing his girlfriend, Fudge (Melissa Bohon) on how to avoid the amorous advances of Dukes. Lady Diana (Sarah Ambrose) is bewildered by the odd servants and guests -many of whom are members of Theo's company - Crump (Keith Herron), a butler; Gaiety Girls Alma (Elyse Beyer), Cleo (Jessica Wagner) and Mr. Satterthwaite (Ben Liebert) guests. Joining in the mayhem are Jeff Horst, Brent Heuser, David Brent Howard, Rene Madden and Sara Sawyer. Director: Thomas Sabella-Mills Music Director: Paul L.
