MusicalFare Theatre Awarded Grant For Canal Side Comes to Life!

By:

MusicalFare Theatre was recently awarded a grant from Erie Canal Harbor Development Corporation for its "Canal Side Comes to Life!" project at Buffalo's Inner Harbor.

MusicalFare's participation consists of re-creation of an historical figure: DeWitt Clinton, former two-time Governor of New York State and Director of the New York State Canal Commission. Mr. Clinton was primarily responsible for seeing that the Canal got built and that it connected to Buffalo. Although the whole project was originally mocked, with folks calling it "Clinton's Ditch" and "Clinton's Folly", once it was completed, it was such a success that Clinton became known as the "Father of the Erie Canal". Attired in early 19th century period costume, actor Nick Russo as Mr. Clinton, speaks to visitors at Canal Side about the history and development of the Erie Canal and about the importance of Buffalo as its Western terminus.

MusicalFare Theatre Artistic/Executive Director Randall Kramer states: "MusicalFare is thrilled to work with the Erie Canal Harbor Development Corp. at Canalside to bring to life, in an engaging and entertaining manner, the historical character of DeWitt Clinton. I can't think of a better way to utilize MusicalFare's creativity and resources than to partner with an organization and an area that is so key to the future of our region."
