Music Institute Of Chicago Welcomes Perspective Students 4/17

By:

The Music Institute of Chicago, the oldest community music school in Illinois and one of the three oldest in the nation, invites prospective students to find out more about its programs and instruction at open houses April 3 at its Lake Forest campus and April 17 at its Highland Park campus. In addition, MIC will hold its annual spring Audition Festival April 17 at its Evanston East and Highland Park campuses.

The free open houses are an opportunity for children and families to enjoy concerts and interactive events, including MIC's popular Instrument Petting Zoo for hands-on exploration of string, brass, wind, and percussion instruments. There will also be Musikgarten® early childhood demos, opportunities to talk with faculty and staff, and performances.

The Lake Forest open house takes place Sunday, April 3 at 40 East Old Mill Road, beginning with a 3:30 p.m. concert followed by activities at 4:30 p.m. The Highland Park open house Sunday, April 17, which takes place at the Highland Park Community House at 1991 Sheridan Road, Suite 200, kicks off with an hour-long cabaret show featuring MIC voice faculty and performer Hilary Feldman followed by an Instrument Petting Zoo. For more information, visit musicinst.org.

The Audition Festival takes place Sunday, April 17 from 1 to 6 p.m. at MIC's Evanston East Campus, 1490 Chicago Avenue, and 1 to 3 p.m. at the Highland Park campus, 1991 Sheridan Road (Highland Park Community House). MIC is auditioning students entering second grade or higher who play strings, woodwinds, brass, percussion, piano, or guitar, as well as vocalists, for chamber music ensembles, jazz combos, orchestras and madrigal singers. There is no cost to audition. Those interested in scheduling an appointment should call 847.905.1500, ext. 180 or complete an audition request form at musicinst.org.

About the Music Institute of Chicago
The Music Institute of Chicago (MIC) believes that music has the power to sustain and nourish the human spirit; therefore, our mission is to provide the foundation for lifelong engagement with music. As one of the three largest and most respected community music schools in the nation, MIC's musical excellence is built on the strength of our distinguished faculty, commitment to quality, and breadth of programs and services. Founded in 1931, MIC is one of the oldest community music schools in Illinois. MIC is a member of the National Guild of Community Schools of the Arts and accredited by the National Association of Schools of Music. Each year, our world-class music teachers and arts therapists provide the highest quality arts education to more than 5,000 students of all ages and ability levels, at campuses in Evanston, Highland Park, Lake Forest, Lincolnshire, Winnetka, and Downers Grove. MIC also offers lessons and programs at the Steinway of Chicago store in Northbrook and early childhood and community engagement programs throughout the Chicago area and the North Shore. Performances at Nichols Concert Hall, located in downtown Evanston, reach approximately 14,000 people each year. MIC community engagement and partnership programs reach an additional 6,500 Chicago Public School students annually.

MIC offers lessons, classes, and programs through four distinct areas: Community School, The Academy, Creative Arts Therapy (Institute for Therapy through the Arts), and Nichols Concert Hall.
