Murney Stars In Music Circus's 'Evita' Through August 17th
California Musical Theatre's Music Circus will present the third and final collaboration between British musical theatre legends Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice. The 1980 Tony Award winner for best musical is the smash pop opera about a passionate woman who went from the streets of Argentina to show business stardom to the highest levels of influence in Buenos Aires. At once both a saint and a villain, Eva Peron's dramatic, meteoric rise from poverty to prosperity is a groundbreaking and heartbreaking depiction of populism, politics and celebrity. The production begins performances tonight, August 12th and runs through August 17th.
Julia Murney, who starred on Broadway as Elphaba in "Wicked," will make her Music Circus debut as Eva Peron in "EVITA." She will be joined by Eric Kunze as Ché. Kunze, reprising his role at Music Circus from eight years ago, recently starred as The Man in the national tour of Andrew Lloyd Webber's "Whistle Down the Wind." A favorite with Music Circus audiences, his other credits include Joe Hardy in "Damn Yankees," Jesus in "Jesus Christ Superstar," Joseph in "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat" and Joe Cable in "South Pacific." Juan Peron will be played by Scott Blanks, who performed the role in two different national tours. "Evita" will be directed by Glenn Casale with choreography by John MacInnis. Dennis Castellano will be the musical director.Single tickets for the 2008 Music Circus season are now on sale at the Wells Fargo Pavilion, 1419 H Street or by phone at (916) 557-1999.
