Producer Steven Ullman has announced that any ticket holder
who shows up to a performance of Bernice
Bobs Her Mullet, the new musical which will debut at this year's New York
Musical Theatre Festival (NYMF), wearing a mullet (real or fake!), will be
inducted into the 'Bernice's Mullet Hall of Fame' at the Julia Miles Theatre.
At each performance of Bernice
Bobs Her Mullet, there will be a photographer in the lobby, snapping shots
of everyone with a mullet (real or fake!).
Every photo will go in the 'Mullet Hall of Fame,' and the winner,
selected nightly by the producer, will win a Bernice Bobs Her Mullet T-Shirt and get to take a post-performance
photo with the show's star, Garrett Long – Bernice herself!
The musical, written by Joe Major and directed by Andy
Sandberg, is based on F. Scott Fitzgerald's popular story "Bernice Bobs Her
Hair." The musical will play six
performances at the Julia
Miles Theatre
(424 West 55th Street)
September 19 – 30, 2007.
The cast includes Garrett Long as the title character, Nick
Cearley, Katrina Rose Dideriksen, Hollie Howard, Jeff Hiller, Ann Morrison,
Brandon Wardell and Lauren Worsham.
"Bernice Bobs Her
Mullet tells the story of a young redneck who leaves her Podunk hometown to
experience life in the big city... of Little
Rock, Arkansas. It isn't long before Bernice discovers the
scariest part of urban living... spoiled teenagers! Soon, Bernice gets swept up in the glamour
and politics of popularity and learns the hard way that you shouldn't let it go
to your head."
The design team for Bernice
Bobs Her Mullet includes Shea Sullivan (choreographer), Charles Corcoran (sets),
Herrick Goldman (lighting), Ryan Rossetto (costumes), Justin Hatchimonji (music
director) and Kim Douglas Steiner (music supervisor).
Now in its 4th year, The New York Musical Theatre Festival
is the largest musical theatre event in America. NYMF premiered 99 new musicals during its
first three seasons, with more than a dozen of these shows transferring to
successful off-Broadway and regional productions. Hailed as "the Sundance of Musical
Theatre," NYMF is widely regarded as the premier source for new material
and talent discovery.
