Movement Theatre's LAST LAUGH Set for 2013 soloNOVA Arts Festival, 5/29-6/2

By:

The Movement Theatre Company (TMTC) as part of terraNOVA Collective's 10th Annual soloNOVA Festival presents, Last Laugh, a dark comedy exploring the tug and pull of being a Black performer in America.

Written and performed by Eric Lockley, and directed by Jonathan McCrory, Last Laugh is a dark comedy that explores the mind space of two performers loosely based on Sammy Davis Jr. & Lincoln Berry (aka Stepin Fetchit). As their deep-seeded desire to keep audiences laughing begins to take its toll, these characters struggle to avoid a hilariously scary identity crisis. The show struck a chord with experimental theater icons, Penny Arcade and Ellen Stewart when it was first presented at the famed New York theatre LaMaMa, and since then the show had a sold-out run at Performance Space 122 (PS122), also in New York.

Last Laugh will have three performances at IRT Theater (154 Christopher Street 3B). Tickets are $20 and can be purchased online at www.themovementtheatrecompany.org. Performances are: May 29th: 9pm; June 1st: 7pm; and June 2nd: 3pm.

The Movement Theatre Company [TMTC] is a Harlem based not-for-profit organization whose mission is dedicated to developing new works by artists of color and producing work that highlights both the collective and diverse human experience. With all of their work, TMTC engages audiences in a rich theatrical dialogue, enlightens communities of color to the important social issues affecting our world, and empowers emerging artists to find their voice.
