Mix together one New York diamond dealer who's an Orthodox Jew from Brooklyn with one modern, "High Holy Day" Jewish investment banker who's looking for the perfect engagement ring. Add a Jewish doctor, the fiancée, who lives with the banker in Manhattan. Stir up the stew when the Orthodox jeweler moves in with the happy couple. Toss in a Jewish online dating service, a beautiful, single religious woman who responds to jewdate.com, a yarmulke with a Yankee's insignia and soul searching on everyone's part and you have a recipe for an uproarious romp sure to reawaken your matchmaking skills, the mysteries of life and your faith.
Modern Orthodox broke the box office when it previewed in New Haven and is currently playing at New York's Off Broadway theater, Dodger Stages. It has been optioned for a film. The playwright, Daniel Goldfarb is a graduate of The Juilliard School and NYU. But before the movie comes out, see Caldwell's moving, fall-down-laughing commentary on modern day love.
