David Mirvish in co-production with the Manitoba Theatre Centre is pleased to present Medea at the Canon Theatre from January 9 - February 8, 2009.  Medea opens on Sunday January 11.

Medea opened to rave reviews at the John Hirsch Theatre at the MTC Mainstage in Winnipeg  and tells the tragic story of a woman scorned. Medea was first presented by MTC at the Warehouse during the 1991-92 season, a wildly successful production that starred Seana McKenna and was directed by Miles Potter.  Seana and Miles later received accolades for Medea at the Stratford Shakespeare Festival in 2000.

Euripides' immortal drama of obsession and revenge tells the tale of the princess Medea.  She has given everything for a man who now casts her aside for a new, younger wife, better placed to further his ambitions.  Heartbroken and enraged, Medea searches her soul to make sense of her husband's betrayal.  Her final course of action changed history... and will change the way you look at the meaning of love and hate.  Considered among the greatest plays ever written, Medea is as contemporary and meaningful now as when it premiered 2,500 years ago. A performance that will grip you from its first moment to its shocking conclusion in a major new production.

In addition to Seana McKenna in the title role, Medea features Scott Wentworth as Jason. Rounding out the cast are Nigel Bennett, Walter Borden, Lindsay Buchanan-Clarke, Patricia Conolly, Audrey Dwyer, Bruce Gooch, Kyra Harper, Deborah Hay, Chapelle Jaffe, Claire Jullien, Vickie Papavs, Jamie Robinson and Michael Spencer-Davis.  Also appearing are Cameron Armsworthy, John Fleming, Sasha White and Briar Young.
