Miners Alley Playhouse presents: 'ART' by Yasmina Reza

By:

How would you feel about your best friend if he suddenly did something you thought so colossally stupid, it made you doubt the very basis of the friendship? When an art lover Serge, buys what is in essence a pure white painting for a horse-choking sum, his best friend, Marc goes ballistic. A third friend, Yvan squeezed in the middle of the conflict, tries to please and mollify them both. Serious questions about the meaning of contemporary art and contemporary friendships (and how they're sometimes not all that different)are bought into sharp relief in this classic comedy "Art".

Director Richard Pegg has cast Josh Hartwell as Yvan, Jim Hunt as Marc and Chris Kendall as Serge. Chris Kendall received the 2009-10 Henry Award for Lead Actor in a Play for the Miners Alley production of "A Picasso."

Winner of the 1998 Tony Award for Best Play. Winner of the 1996 Olivier Award for Best Comedy. "...wildly funny, naughtily provocative..." -NY Post.

Yasmina Reza began working as an actress in France and appeared in numerous plays by contemporary authors as well as plays by Molière, Marivaux, and Sacha Guitry. In 1987 she wrote "Conversations after a Burial" for performance in France and won the prestigious Molière Award for best author as well as many other awards. Following its performance in France, the play was produced in translation in Europe and South America. "Winter Crossing" (1990), her second play, won the 1990 Molière Award for best fringe production that year. "Art" premiered in Berlin and opened in Paris in 1994, where it won the Molière Award for best author, best play, and best production. It also won prizes in London for best comedy and in Germany for best foreign play.

Miners Alley Playhouse introduces reserved seating and a new online ticketing service with the opening of Yasmina Reza's "Art."

Opening night features a great, gala hors d' oeuvres reception after the show; audience is invited to join the festivities and mingle with the cast. On Saturday, September 18, Miners Alley holds its "Second Saturday" talk back with the cast after the performance.
