"The Price"
West Palm Beach's only resident professional theatre, Palm Beach Dramaworks kicks off its 7th anniversary season with Arthur Miller's acclaimed play "The Price" at their intimate downtown theatre (322 Banyan Boulevard). The production plays now through December 10th.
A gripping drama from the playwright who defined a nation's conscience --- Arthur Miller's, "The Price" exposes the jealousy and anger between two middle aged brothers. The men meet after sixteen years of estrangement to settle the estate of their selfish father.
Passions flare when old wounds are opened revealing the brothers' complex relationship with each other and their father. Taking place in the attic of a Manhattan brownstone about to be demolished, the four character play centers around Walter Franz, a successful surgeon who drifted away from the family years ago, his brother Victor Franz, a police officer who did not finish college in order to support his ailing father, his wife Esther and Gregory Solomon, a wise, aging antiques dealer.
Directed by Dramaworks Producing Artistic Director William Hayes, " The Price" features the talents of Mark Ulrich as Victor Franz, Dan Leonard as Walter Franz, Patti Gardner as Esther and Peter Haig as Gregory Solomon.
"The Price" has sets designed by Sean McClelland, costumes designed by Erin Amico and lights designed by Suzanne M. Jones.
Arthur Miller is one of our most highly regarded American playwrights. Born in New York in 1915, Miller has created such masterpieces as "All My Sons," "The Crucible," and "After The Fall." Miller received the Pulitzer Prize in 1949 for "Death of a Salesman." "The Price" originally opened at The Morosco Theatre on Broadway in 1968 when it won two Tony Awards for Best Play and Best Scenic Design. The play has since been revived on and off-Broadway receiving both the Tony Award and Drama Desk Award in 1993 and 2000 for Best Revival of a Play. The 1971 television/film version starring George C. Scott won 3 Emmy Awards.
The Palm Beach Dramaworks' season will continue with a distinguished roster of plays including "Trying" by Joanna Glass (January 5th-February 4th) , "Betrayal" by Harold Pinter (March 9th-April 7th) and "The Voice of the Prairie" by John Olive (May 11th-June 10th). Performance times are Fridays and Saturdays at 8PM , and Sundays at 2 PM with select Wednesday and Thursday evenings at 8PM and Saturday matinees at 2PM.
