Michael Gott In Fine Form In Cabaret Show 'Time After Time'

By:

When Michael Gott plays the piano and sings, he instills the music and lyrics with true feeling that comes directly from his very being.  His enthusiasm is soon contagious, and you are transported by his animated performance into another place:  right inside the song.

Mr. Gott has been a fixture on the Dallas music scene for quite some time.  At Stone Street Theatre on November 10, his dazzling talents were on display as he paid a musical tribute to songwriters.  From his opening, a clever juxtaposition of two songs with the same title, "Time After Time," to his conclusion, a haunting combination of "Over the Rainbow" and "Somewhere," Mr. Gott delighted the audience.

He is not just a performer; he is a true artist who treats every song as if it were a rare and precious artifact. His rendition of classics such as "Old Devil Moon" and "In The Still of the Night" were presented by him as the genuine treasures they are.  Mr. Gott also displays the same care towards his own compositions, particularly in the delivery of his lilting song "Peaceful Breeze and Gentle Moon."  As part of his salute to songwriters, he asked local songwriter Charity Lankford to come on stage.  Together, they sung her powerful "Feeling My Way."

Michael Gott does more than just perform.  In addition to being a skillful musician, he also possesses an inviting personality.  This was apparent both the way he presented his musical numbers and his patter between them, particularly a witty story about a local patron of the arts.  An evening with Michael Gott is not just an evening.  It is a pleasant and moving experience.
