Metropolitan Room Presents Almost-All-Yiddish Vaudeville Revue Tonight, 8/8

Tonight, August 8 at 9:30PM some of New York's most gifted singers, comedians, and novelty performers will bring 2nd Avenue and the Lower East Side of acentury ago back to side-splitting, tear-jerking life! Playing the Metropolitan Room, 34 West 22nd Street, for one night only, "You Don't Have to Speak Yiddish to Understand the Truth" is produced by Media Blitz Entertainment, and hosted by master of ceremonies Shane Baker.

With just enough English for New York audiences to get it (out-of-towners, forget it!), the high-Yiddish-content show benefits two of New York's most venerable, and obscure Jewish cultural organizations – The Sholem Aleichem Memorial Foundation and The Congress for Jewish Culture.

Summoning up the spirits of legends like Molly Picon, Jenny Goldstein, Jacob Adler, Boris Thomashefsky, and Fanny Brice, the evening's cast of thousands includes 11 young standouts. Led by the Yiddish matinée idol Shane Baker (the preeminent, non-Jewish Yiddish scholar and vaudevillian), the bill includes the mismatched songbirds Daniella Rabbaniand Miryem-Khaye Seigel, the comedian Bob Greenberg, the Yiddish tragedian David Mandelbaum, and the incredible husband-and-wife team of Allen Lewis Rickman and Yelena Shmulenson.

Jointly handling the music direction are the klezmer phenom Michael Winograd and New York's leading silent film accompanist Steve Sterner. Patrick Farrell on accordion and Matt Temkin on drums roundout the band. Also making aspecial guest appearance is the Park Avenue Marxist, 95-year-old Sidney Gluck ,who heads the Sholem Aleichem Memorial Foundation, and who is profiled in two upcoming Media Blitz documentary productions… visit www.stillinthegame.biz for more.

"You Don't Have to Speak Yiddish to Understand theTruth" -- an evening of vintage vaudeville direct from 2nd Avenue, New York's ORIGINAL Downtown -- performs tonight August 8 at 9:30PM. Tax deductible tickets benefiting the Sholem Aleichem Memorial Foundation or The Congress for Jewish Culture are $500 or $50, plus a two-drink minimum. For reservations call 212/206-0440, or to order online inadvance go to www.metropolitanroom.com.
