Avgust Amonov will make his Met debut in the title role of tomorrow evening's performance of Verdi's Otello, replacing Johan Botha, who is ill.
The Russian tenor recently sang Otello with the Lithuanian National Opera. He performs frequently with St. Petersburg's Mariinsky Opera, where his recent roles have included Don Alvaro in Verdi's La Forza del Destino, Radamès in Verdi's Aida, and The Emperor in Richard Strauss's Die Frau ohne Schatten.
Otello, conducted by Semyon Bychkov, also stars Renée Fleming as Desdemona, Falk Struckmann as Iago, and Michael Fabiano as Cassio.
