Mel Ferrer Has Died at 90 Years Old

Mel Ferrer died in Santa Barbara, California on June 2. He was 90 years old.

Ferrer appeared in the plays, "Kind Lady", ""Cue for Passion", "Strange Fruit", and "Ondine" with then wife Audrey Hepburn. In 1946, he directed a revival of "Cyrano de Bergerac" starring Jose Ferrer who won a Tony for the role.

In Hollywood Ferrer worked as an actor, writer, producer, and director. As an actor, his best known work included "The Brave Bulls", "Scaramouche", "Lili", "War and Peace" (opposite Hepburn), "The Sun Also Rises", and the TV series "Falcon Crest".

He directed Hepburn in "Green Mansions" and produced "Wait Until Dark", earning her an Academy Award nomination. The couple divorced in 1968.

Ferrer is survived by his fourth wife, Elizabeth Soukhotine, and his children, including his and Hepburn's son, Sean.
