According to a casting notice, Conor McPherson's The Seafarer will be traveling to Broadway in fall of 2007.
The Seafarer is by the acclaimed Irish author of Shining City and The Weir. Produced by Boyett-Ostar (The History Boys, the upcoming Coram Boy), The Seafarer would begin previews on or around November 18th, 2007 and open on or around December 6th. A theatre has not been announced.
The Seafarer was previously a hit for the UK's National Theatre last year when it played the Cottesloe stage. "It's Christmas Eve and Sharky has returned to Dublin to look after his irascible, aging brother who's recently gone blind. Old drinking buddies Ivan and Nicky are holed up at the house too, hoping to play some cards. But with the arrival of a stranger from the distant past, the stakes are raised ever higher. In fact, Sharky may be playing for his very soul…," state National Theatre notes.
Jim Norton won an Olivier Award for his performance as the blind Richard Harkin. According to the notice, the role has been cast for Broadway; however, it is unknown if Norton will repeat his role. No casting has been announced.
McPherson also directed The Seafarer at the National Theatre. His Shining City was nominated for a Best Play Tony Award in 2006.
