Mazeppa Productions Presents SPRING AWAKENING, 7/12-28

Mazeppa Productions will be the first resident theater company in Philadelphia to bring the 2006 Tony Award-winning musical Spring Awakeningto life. Opening on July 12, 2012, Spring Awakening will mark the start of Mazeppa's second season of musical production as well as its inaugural production at the Christ Church Neighborhood House Theatre in Old City, Philadelphia. Director Rob Henry, music director Jerry Kapral, and choreographer Dawn Morningstar will lead the cast of thirteen in staging the Duncan Sheik/Steven Sater musical. Spring Awakening runs July 11-28, 2012 at the Christ Church Neighborhood House Theatre at 20 North American Street, Philadelphia. Advance tickets are $20 and can be purchased at www.mazeppaproductions.org. Tickets at the door are $25.

The winner of eight Tony Awards – including Best Musical – Spring Awakening is a coming of age story that tells the timeless story of self-discovery and budding sexuality as seen through the eyes of three naïve teenagers. Haunting and provocative, Spring Awakening celebrates an unforgettable journey from youth to adulthood with unforgettable power, poignancy, and passion. The cast of Spring Awakening is led by Jim Hogan, Breanna Pursell, and Nate Golden as Melchior, Wendla, and Moritz, respectively. Michael Gray, Ian Monaco, Billy Kametz, Jeremy Konopka, Zach Kononov, Jenna Kuerzi, Catherine Maeve Logan, Ian Monaco, Leeanna Rubin, Grace Tarves, and Brittany Taylor complete the cast of thirteen.

PRODUCTION TEAM: Director Rob Henry, Music Director Gerald Kapral, Choreographer Dawn Morningstar, Stage Manager Kelly Orenshaw, Assistant Director Anne Marie Scalies, Technical Director Matt Kator, Set Designer Brian Seaman, Costume Designer Julia Poiesz, Prop Designer Christopher Haig and Lighting Designer Alyssandra Docherty.

Mazeppa Productions was founded in 2011 by Artistic Director, Rob Henry, and Managing Director, Brian Seaman. In their first season, Mazeppa staged Pippin and the children's musical, Dear Edwina, which was revived in April at the Upper Darby Performing Arts Center. Mazeppa Productions was formed as an outlet for Philadelphia artists to produce contemporary musical Theater Productions and to reinvent classic musicals. Mazeppa Productions strives to bring the transformative power of musical theatre to audiences of all ages through innovative and professional mountings.
