Massachusetts Lawmakers Step In To Save Beverly Theater

By:

As reported by the associated press, "State legislators are stepping in to help the financially struggling North Shore Music Theatre".

But they are not offering money.

State Rep. Mary Grant, D-Beverly, tells The Salem News that the state is instead offering "technical assistance" through the Massachusetts Cultural Council.

The council would provide experts on nonprofit cultural institutions who can help the theater asses its financial situation and formulate a business plan to help it right its financial ship.

Theater officials have said the half-century-old facility will close unless it can raise $500,000 by the end of January and $4 million by late spring. The theater has already laid off 57 employees.

Grant says the state can’t "afford financial assistance."

The public can help to save the theatre by joining them on February 3 at Danversport Yacht Club for a special benefit to raise money to save their theatre. The night features live and silent auctions, a memorabilia tag sale and a fantastic evening of entertainment hosted by North Shore audience favorite David Coffee with special guest George Dvorsky and featuring performances by The NSMT Orchestra and many NSMT Alumni!
