Marvell Rep's NIGHT GAMES Postpones Opening to Feb 23

By:

NIGHT GAMES by Lenny Leibowitz, was originally scheduled to open at Marvell Rep on Thursday, February 14 at 8 PM. It will now be opening Saturday, February 23 at 8 p.m. in its world premiere, adapted from the novella Spiel im Morgengrauen by Arthur Schnitzler.

In this steamy thriller, a young army officer agrees to help a friend in need. Short of cash, he finds his salvation at the card table, where he goes on a life-changing hot streak before his luck (and his life) take a dramatic turn. Today, author Arthur Schnitzler is often associated with sex and death, but Schnitzler's far-reaching perceptions about human behavior were extraordinarily perceptive. Sigmund Freud himself confessed that Schnitzler "learned through intuition ... everything that I have had to unearth by laborious work." NIGHT GAMES, a new theatrical adaptation of Schnitzler's novella, showcases the writer's understanding not only of our willingness to take enormous risks in an attempt to control our own destiny, but also of character and human frailty.

Marvell Repertory Theatre is New York's only professional theatre company devoted exclusively to producing new and enduring works in rotating repertory. Previous productions include THE THREEPENNY OPERA, the New York premiere of Arthur Schnitzler's PROFESSOR BERNHARDI, Wedekind's SPRING'S AWAKENING, Sholem Asch's GOD OF VENGEANCE, S. Ansky's THE DYBBUK, Lorca's BLOOD WEDDING, Ingmar Bergman's NORA, J.M. Synge's IN THE SHADOW OF THE GLEN. NIGHT GAMES marks the company's first world premiere production; it runs in rotating repertory with Arthur Schnitzler's FLIRTATION, which begins previews February 19, 2013.

NIGHT GAMES features Isaac Woofter (War Horse), John Windsor-Cunningham (The Devil's Disciple), Emma Rosenthal (The Threepenny Opera), Broadway standard Geddeth Smith, in a company that also includes Kevin Gilmartin, Angus Hepburn, Susannah Jones, George Michael Kennedy, Markus Potter, Jeremy Smith, and Emelie Faith Thompson. The design team includes Kenichi Takahashi (scenery), Jennifer Raskopf (costumes), Nicholas Houfek (lighting), and Ann Warren (sound).

All performances will be at TBG Theatre, 312 West 36th Street (west of 8th Avenue), 3rdFloor.
