Marin Theatre Co. Extends THE SEAFARER Through Dec. 14

Due to high ticket demand, Marin Theatre Company announces the extension of its hit production of Conor McPherson's The Seafarer. This is the first West Coast production since its Tony award-winning 2007 run on Broadway. The show extends an extra week with eight additional performances through December 14, 2008.

"If poker, whiskey and foul language don't sound much like Christmas fare, you haven't reckoned with the peculiar genius of one of Ireland's most celebrated young playwrights. The Seafarer is as redemptive as it is gritty, suspenseful, funny and strangely touching," says Robert Hurwitt of the San Francisco Chronicle.

The Seafarer will keep you on the edge of your seat as a quintet of cranky, quirky Irishmen play a high stakes poker game on Christmas Eve where everything is on the line. Sharky has returned to Baldoyle to look after his irascible, aging brother who has recently gone blind. Old drinking buddies Ivan and Nicky are holed up at the house too, hoping to play some cards. But with the arrival of a stranger from the distant past, the stakes are raised ever higher. In fact, Sharky may be playing for his very soul.

Director Jasson Minadakis has assembled a tremendous ensemble cast comprised of many of the best actors in the Bay Area to bring McPherson's lyrical, brilliant writing to life. This satiric look at redemption at the holiday season makes The Seafarer the perfect alternative adult Christmas play.
