Mama Foundation for the Arts to Present German Version of SECRETS, 3/16-18

By:

A theatrical performance of the original drama SECRETS - The Untold Story of Sigmund Freud and Carl Jung, written and directed by Ken Wydro (co-writer and director of Mama, I Want to Sing: The Next Generation) will be presented in German for three performances only at the Mama Foundation for the Arts.  Translated into German by Karin Eberhardt, SECRETS (or GEHEIMNISSE) will be performed on Friday, March 16 at 7:00 p.m., Saturday, March 17 at 7:00 p.m., and Sunday, March 18 at 4:00 p.m.  There will be a Q&A discussion with the author and the cast during a wine & snacks  reception after each performance.  Tickets are $45 / $20 for students and actors with valid ID.

SECRETS - The Untold Story of Sigmund Freud and Carl Jung, is based on the 1,000 letters that were exchanged by Freud and Jung in the early years of psychoanalysis (1907-1913).  While many know of the professional relationship between two of the most innovative minds of the 20th Century, few know of the intense, emotionally-charged personal relationship that the two men developed. While each helped many patients and published daring new ideas about the nature of the psyche, both were unable to overcome their own inner complexes, especially when dealing with each other.

Says author Ken Wydro, “SECRETS is a tribute to Freud and Jung. They both changed the way we understand ourselves, if we ever do at all. Without dealing with our own secrets, we live on the surface of life. To be free, we all must come to face and to integrate what we have kept secret for years.  Healing does not begin until a secret has been revealed. We can get away with a secret.  We cannot get away from it.”

SECRETS was previously presented as a reading at the Austrian Cultural Forum.

The cast of SECRETS - The Untold Story of Sigmund Freud and Carl Jung includes Dieter Riesle as Sigmund Freud, Christoper Domig as Carl Jung, Sandra Schneider as Emma Jung, Frank Van Putten as Sandor Ferenczi and Anita Anthonj as Toni Wolff.

Ken Wydro is playwright, lyricist and director (Mama, I Want to Sing; And, Vice Versa) as well as a Tony nominated producer (Joe Turner’s Come and Gone and American Buffalo on Broadway, Long Day’s Journey Into Night and Top Hat in the West End).
