So Ya Wanna Know the Score...

This is MadLab's second annual Speakeasy fundraiser? But why didn't I
hear about the first one? MadLab Events Committee member Josh Kessler
discusses...

Why have a Speakeasy for a fundraiser? We wanted to throw a fundraiser
that said "MadLab." We knew that casino nights were popular, but we
wanted to put our own particular spin on the idea. So Jenn Barlup,
our Board Chair, suggested a Speakeasy. We still have casino games
and a full bar available, but we also get to do what we do best-dress
up, play a part, and create an atmosphere. We're going with something
out of the 1920's, with that underground, exclusive sort of feel that
plays to the strengths of our new building. And of course, you can't
get in without a password.

Why didn't I hear about the first one? Well, it's funny you should
ask. Last year we tried to do an underground, guerrilla marketing
campaign over Facebook and Twitter where we encouraged people to call
a phone number to get the password. We wanted to make it mysterious,
like people were calling a seedy character from the Roaring ‘20's. Of
course, it turns out most people don't like calling a phone number
they don't recognize. Like, at all. So unless you were one of about
30 people who called that number last year, you probably didn't hear
much about it. We, uh, changed that this year.

Aside from better marketing, what else can we expect from this year's
Speakeasy? We'll have everything you'd expect at a Speakeasy-casino
games, prizes, a full bar, a 50/50 raffle, plenty of atmosphere, and a
full cast of MadLab Ensemble members playing dealers, bartenders, and
cigarette girls. Your admission gets you two free drinks and $25 in
casino chips. Plus, if you come in costume, you'll get an extra drink
ticket when you come in. But, again, you can't get in without the
password.

So what's the password? NIce Try, but you'll have to visit
www.madlab.net to get it. It'll be on our home page. In big, bold
letters. And I promise you won't have to call a strange phone number
to get it. Tell ‘em Lefty sent ya.
