MTG Presents ONE TOUCH OF VENUS 2/7

By:

The award-winning Musical Theatre Guild, a company of professional performers who present concert-staged readings of seldom seen musicals, will continue its 15th season with Kurt Weill and Ogden Nash's 1943 rare classic ONE TOUCH OF VENUS. The opening performance will take place on Monday, February 7, 2011 at 7:30 PM at the historic Alex Theatre in Glendale. A second, and final, performance will occur on Sunday, February 13, 2011 at 3:00 PM at the Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Plaza's Scherr Forum.

With a book by two of America's most gifted humorists (Odgen Nash and S.J. Perleman), ONE TOUCH OF VENUS features Kurt Weill's most lovely score ("Speak Low", "That's Him", "I'm a Stranger Here Myself"). Little seen despite its 567 performance Broadway run, the show improbably tells of a Grecian statue coming to life and becoming involved with a modern day barber. After Marlene Dietrich backed out during rehearsals (calling the show "too sexy and profane"), VENUS established Mary Martin as a true Broadway star.

ONE TOUCH OF VENUS will star MTG members Jennifer Shelton as Venus, Kevin Symons as Savory, Will Collyer as Rodney and Jennifer Gordon as Molly. The musical will also feature company members Eydie Alyson, Chuck Bergman, Christopher Callen, Pamela Hamill, Maura M. Knowles and Mark Reis with guest artists Zachery Ford, Gregory Franklin, Brent Schindele, Leslie Spencer, Adam Trent and Ann Villella. VENUS will be directed by Richard Israel with musical direction by Dean Mora, choreography by Karen Nowicki and Eileen Barnett acting as production coordinator for MTG.

The Alex Theatre is located at 216 North Brand Blvd in Glendale. Tickets are available at the Alex Theatre box office, online at www.alextheatre.org or by calling 818-243-ALEX. Tickets to this venue are available by calling Ticketmaster at 800-745-3000, online at www.ticketmaster.com or by visiting the Civic Arts Plaza box office.
