MISS MARGARIDA'S WAY Comes To Baystreet and The Parrish Art Museum 8/19-8/22, 8/26-29

What do you get when you have an unruly classroom and a teacher on The Edge? Miss Margarida's Way explores the balance of power in Bay Street's next production at Baystreet@The Parrish Art Museum. Featuring café-style seating for a 99-seat audience, this new second space allows Bay Street to present works in development for their Workshop Series, sponsored in part by the Lucille Lortel Foundation. Miss Margarida's Way plays at 8pm nightly, from Wednesday August 19 thru Saturday, August 22nd and Wednesday, August 26 thru Saturday, August 29.

Miss Margarida's Way features Julie Halston and is directed by Daniel Goldstein. Written by Roberto Athayde, this satirical play premiered in Brazil in 1973 and was immediately banned by the military dictatorship in power. Eventually, a censored version was allowed, but the controversy had already led to international interest and many productions, including a landmark Broadway performance. Julie Halston as Miss Margarida, plays an eighth grade school teacher, while the audience plays their role of the class who she alternately tries to bully, seduce, and ultimately teach.

Julie Halston is an award-winning actress and comedienne, most widely recognized for her role as Bitsy Von Muffling from Sex and the City. She has been nominated for several awards including Drama Desk and Drama League nominations for her work in White Chocolate, an Outer Critics Circle nomination for her performance in Twentieth Century, and a Drama Desk nomination for her role in Red Scare on Sunset. Bay Street audiences may remember her for her roles in Shanghai Moon, Lady in Question, The Dear Harold Trilogy and many of her renowned one-woman comedy shows.
Miss Margarida's Way will take place at the Parrish Art Museum, 25 Job's Lane in Southampton. Tickets are $40 and may be purchased online at www.baystreet.org, or through the Bay Street Box Office at 631-725-9500, open daily at 11am. Bay Street is located on the Long Wharf in Sag Harbor, NY.
