MEASURE FOR PLEASURE Romps Into ArtsWest 10/21-11/14

By:

ArtsWest presents the Seattle Premiere of Measure for Pleasure by David Grimm, October 21 – November 14.

Lady Vanity loves Sir Lustforth…who loves Hermione Goode…who loves Captain Dick Dashwood…who loves…well, just about everyone (male and female) before the intermission. Meanwhile, Will Blunt is in love with Molly, a young transvestite prostitute. But Blunt doesn't count on his boyfriend falling in love with Dashwood as well…

A deliciously naughty Restoration-romp-meets-modern-sex-farce, Measure for Pleasure chases rakes, romantics, and transvestite tarts through mistaken identities, duels, and double-dealings galore on their way to learning that, whatever else it may be, love is rarely pure and never simple.

"The script gives us a collision of Restoration comedy with modern sensibilities: rhyming couplets that include swearing, a leading romantic homosexual couple," said ArtsWest Theater Director Christopher Zinovitch. "By turning the conventions of both periods on their ears we get a surprisingly honest exploration of the connection between self love and romantic love."

Directed by Zinovitch, ArtsWest's production of Measure for Pleasure features Zach Adair, Jared Michael Brown, Beth A. Cooper, Paul Custodio, Alex Garnett, Heather Hawkins and Colleen Robertson, with Ryan Floresca, James Frasca and EmilyRose Shotwell-Frasca.

Measure for Pleasure is recommended for ages 17 and older – adult situations, sexual situations, adult language.

Measure for Pleasure is made possible in part by ArtsFund and Season Sponsor Personal Safety Nets.

ArtsWest produces artistic events so fiercely compelling that they require conversation, improve the imagination, and promote cultural vibrancy as a core value for the communities of West Seattle.  Utilizing a 149-seat, 3/4 thrust theater and visual art gallery, ArtsWest has presented over 400 different performing arts productions and gallery exhibitions to over 200,000 visitors since 1999.
