Lynn Redgrave to Star in New Play 'Grace' at MCC

By:

MCC Theater today announced that Lynn Redgrave will star in the New York premiere of Mick Gordon and AC Grayling's Grace, which will play the Lucille Lortel Theatre (121 Christopher Street, NYC) January 23 – March 8, 2008.  Grace marks Ms. Redgrave's first appearance on the New York stage following her Tony nominated performance in the Roundabout Theatre Company's production of The Constant Wife.

"A thoughtful examination of faith and family in the contemporary age, this provocative drama pits Grace (Redgrave), a noted scientist and avowed atheist, against her son Tom, a lawyer planning to become a Christian minister.  When tragedy strikes, Grace becomes even more obstinate and Tom's father and pregnant fiancée are caught in the crossfire.  A critically acclaimed hit at London's SoHo Theatre now making its New York premiere, Grace poses compelling questions about timely issues of faith, religiosity and ideological forbearance," state press notes.

Lynn Redgrave was born in London into a family of actors and has enjoyed a remarkable career on stage, screen and beyond spanning four decades.  She has been nominated for 3 Tony Awards, 2 Oscars, 2 Emmys and most recently, a Grammy.  Film highlights include Georgy Girl (Oscar nomination, Golden Globe, NY Film Critics awards), Gods and Monsters (1999 Golden Globe, Independent Spirit Award, Oscar nomination) and Shine (BAFTA and SAG nominations).  She is a founding member of The Royal National Theatre and is the author of three plays, Shakespeare For My Father (which examines her relationship with Sir Michael Redgrave), The Mandrake Root (loosely based on her mother, the actress Rachel Kempson) and Nightingale (a fictional meditation on the life of her maternal grandmother, Beatrice Kempson), which had its American premiere this autumn at Los Angeles' Mark Taper Forum and most recently completed its East Coast premiere at Connecticut's Hartford Stage.

She has written the text for Journal, A Mother and Daughter's Recovery From Breast Cancer, featuring photographs by her daughter, Annabel Clark, currently in its third printing from Umbrage Editions.  She can now be heard as the voice of Nanny in the animated film series of Me, Eloise and in the upcoming animated feature, My Dog Tulip, with Christopher Plummer.  Ms. Redgrave is a prolific "voice on tape" and her latest audio book release is Roald Dahl's The Witches (Grammy nomination).

Grace is the second play in MCC's 22nd season, which also features Jim Knable's romantic comedy, Spain (October 10 – November 17, 2007) and the World Premiere of The Black Suits, a new musical by Joe Iconis and Robert Maddock (May 14 – July 5, 2008).

Individual tickets to Grace as well as all MCC productions are available through TicketCentral.com or by calling 212-279-4200 once on-sale dates are announced to the general public.

Subscriptions are available now and are as low as $75 for the entire season.  For more information and to purchase packages, call Jessica Crone at 212-727-7722 ext. 224.
